Evangelism - Gospel
Outreach
Evangelism
involves the communication of the Gospel or the Good News
concerning the Lord Jesus Christ. At the heart of
evangelism is the command of the Lord Jesus to His disciples
to; “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every
creature” (Mark 16:15). A few days later they were told to;
“Go and disciple all nations” (Matthew 28:19). Just before the
ascension the words of the Lord Jesus to the disciples were;
“You shall be My witnesses even to the remotest part of the
earth” (Acts 1:8).
The object of
all evangelism is to bring individuals to the Lord Jesus for
salvation and not only for salvation but for discipleship.
Salvation is a divine call and it is accomplished by means of
the Spirit of God through the Word of God, which is “living
and powerful” (Hebrews 4:12).
“The seed is
the word of God” (Luke 8:11).
“Faith comes
by hearing and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).
Consider
three important goals as they relate to evangelism, Acts
14:21-23.
1) The
proclamation of the gospel message in every place and by every
means.
The methods may change and the times may change but the
truth of the gospel message
and its contents are the same (Romans 1:16).
2) The
confirmation of the disciples and the training of new
converts.
Patient teaching, steadfast continuance and individual
attention are required for this
(2 Timothy 2:1-2).
3) The
establishment of local churches giving permanence to the work.
The Acts is primarily the story of the establishment of
local churches. These provided
centers for the further proclamation of the gospel and the
training ground for new Christians
(Acts 2:41-42).
The terms of
the great commission, Matthew 28:19-20.
1) Make
disciples of all nations - proclaim the gospel.
2) Baptize them in the name of the triune God - confirm the
disciples.
3) Teach them to observe all things - establish the work.
James & Florence Ronald
 In 1984 our
family moved to Saskatoon to do personal evangelism. We
continued in visitation, tract distribution, Bible studies,
and held gospel meetings in a number of community centers.
“The love of Christ compels us” (2 Corinthians 5:14). The
Lord blessed His Word and in 1990 a company of Christians met
together as a local church. Read more concerning this under
the Lawson Heights Assembly. |
